Car and Driver Reviews the BMW X3.
Miami car shoppers are quite passionate about their compact-luxury SUVs, which is why the BMW X3, a class-leading model BMW SAV, is overtaking its larger siblings and even nearing the BMW 3 Series’ popularity as a bestseller. The newest generation joins the family as a slightly larger choice over the existing X1 and the soon-to-arrive X2.
Car and Driver recently explored the BMW X3 and came away beaming after a taste of the X3’s performance. It is available in a 4 or 6-cylinder turbocharged format which is paired with an eight-speed transmission and all-wheel drive, a configuration which Car and Driver states “punches above its weight” in many applications.
This third-gen X3 affords a 2.2-inch longer wheelbase than the outgoing model and an overall longer length, yielding a cavernous 29 cubic feet of cargo space and a generous backseat. Technology inside is impressive, too, with available Wi-Fi Hotspot and wireless device charging. Apple CarPlay keeps you in touch while BMW ConnectedDrive allows your Amazon Echo and smartwatch to interact with your vehicle. ParkNow parking space payment application is integrated into iDrive and Remote 3D allows the X3 to use its cameras to send your phone a snapshot of its surroundings upon request.
“The new X3 is a well-rounded performer, particularly the M40i, and it also is now a better ambassador for its brand. That’s a good thing, given its increasingly visible role”, says the Car and Driver editors.
